About W. Chris Fox
W. Chris Fox, MD, FAANS graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.S. in Anthropology-Zoology. After playing professional hockey, he attended the University of Michigan Medical School, was elected to AOA and graduated in 2003. He remained at the University of Michigan to complete his residency in neurological surgery. He completed the endovascular neurosurgery fellowship at the University of Florida.Dr. Fox served from 2010-13 as an active duty neurosurgeon in the United States Navy, assigned to Naval Medical Center San Diego. From 2013-15 Dr. Fox was an Assistant Professor at Columbia University.From 20••••20 Dr. Fox was an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Florida. He was the ACGME and CAST-Accredited Endovascular Surgical Neuroradiology Fellowship Program Director, Associate Residency Program Director, and Medical Director of the Neurosurgery Clinic. He twice received the University of Florida College of Medicine Exemplary Teacher Award.Dr. Fox is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and is subspecialty certified as an endovascular neurosurgeon through CAST and the Society of Neurological Surgeons. He has served as a guest examiner for the American Board of Neurological Surgeons, on multiple NIH study sections, and as faculty for more than twenty national neurosurgical courses in the past five years. He is a member of the 2019-20 Harvard Medical School Surgical Leadership Program.Dr. Fox’s honors include a full athletic scholarship to the University of Michigan, where he was a varsity hockey player on two National Championship teams. He was awarded the US Navy Commendation Medal, Michigan Association of Neurosurgeons resident award for clinical research, Edgar Khan award from the University of Michigan Department of Neurosurgery, and the Aerospace Medical Association National Young Investigator Award. Dr. Fox’s clinical interests include the comprehensive care of patients with cerebrovascular disease. He also has extensive experience treating patients with all types of spine pathology and performs minimally invasive and complex spine surgery. His research interests include physiologic control mechanisms related to vascular reactivity, antiplatelet use in endovascular neurosurgery, and novel approaches for pain control in neurosurgical patients. He has been the principal investigator for multiple clinical and device trials and is a member of multiple national and international research consortiums aimed at improving clinical outcomes.
