Head of Modern Slavery and Workers Rights @Llywodraeth Cymru / Welsh Government
I lead the Welsh Government’s Modern Slavery & Workers’ Rights Team. I am responsible for overseeing the design and delivery of a broad programme of work to tackle modern slavery and unethical and illegal employment practices with a focus on supporting survivors.I chair the Wales Anti-Slavery Leadership Group and the Wales Anti-Slavery Academic Group, bringing together key partners from law enforcement agencies and civil society. I also have lead responsibility for the Welsh Government Code of Practice on Ethical Employment in Supply Chains, with over 400 signatory organisations from across a diverse range of sectors.I am also a core member of the UK Government’s Modern Slavery Strategy and Implementation Group and a member of the Independent Child Trafficking Guardianship Service National Steering Board, among other responsibilities. I work closely with various UK Government departments and agencies and other Devolved Administrations, the devolved public services in Wales, social partners, international organisations, research bodies, and many other key partners.

I am a policy professional currently leading the Modern Slavery and Workers’ Rights Team at the Welsh Government.While previously employed on the Civil Service Fast Stream, I undertook postings in various departments/functions: the Government Finance Function; the Ministry of Justice; HM Revenue & Customs; Welsh Government. My areas of work have included legislation, finance transformation, finance technology, customer insight, process design, counter-fraud, social partnership and fair work.Prior to my Civil Service career, I worked for three years as an English teacher on the JET Programme. I was based in Noto Town, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan - a town best known for its Fire and Violence Festival.
