ABOUT LONG VO
Highlights: Geotechnical Engineering | Foundation Design | Numerical Simulation | Finite Element Method | Soil-structure Interaction | Structural Engineering | Concrete Structure | Earthquake Engineering| Plaxis| Laterally Loaded Pile| Offshore Wind Turbine Foundation| Ocean Renewable Energy| With a track record of designing structures and foundations, interpreting geotechnical investigations and testing reports, conducting soil lab experiments, and managing a small group in delivering designs, I possess proven ability to leverage in-depth versatile expertise structural and geotechnical engineering techniques and applications. I have also demonstrated ability in simulating and modeling complex geo-structural problems and interaction with finite element packages. I am a renewable and particularly ocean energy enthusiast. My current research is on numerical simulation of foundation for offshore wind turbine and hybrid wind-wave energy system. It is aimed to improve reliability of monopile foundation design and develop foundation for hybrid wind-wave system that facilitates commercial deployment of marine hydrokinetic (MHK) energySome of my core competencies along with key technical proficiencies as follows: Solid understanding on soil compositions and fabrics in connection with its engineering behaviors such as hydraulic conductivity, shear strength, and deformations. Geotechnical Analysis & Design: shallow and deep foundations, retaining wall, excavation. Competence in using finite element methods (Plaxis 2D/3D, Etabs, SAFE) in simulation of complex structural, geotechnical, and foundation problems. Soil Investigation & Experimental Methods: interpreting in-situ tests (CPTu, DMT, SPT, vane-shear); performing lab tests (soil classification, shear strength and compressibility, advanced triaxial test) Field Experiment Competence: pile instrumentation and large-scale testing Soil-Foundation-Structure Interaction Analysis: laterally loaded pile, effects of differential settlement in redistribution of forces in structures Computational Proficiency: SLOPE/W, LPile, DeepSoil, GRLWEAP, Stedwin, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and Project.
