He previously held the roles of Stallings Distinguished Scholar and tenured full professor within the University of North Carolina System, as well as Houston Endowed Professor at Southern University in Louisiana.As the Founder and Board President of The ICT University, Prof. Mbarika has steered the institution to international acclaim, with the university repeatedly recognized as the leading digital university in the Central African sub-continent. His visionary leadership has significantly advanced ICT education across the developing world.An accomplished ICT consultant, Prof. Mbarika holds a B.Sc. in Management Information Systems (MIS) from U.S. International University, an M.Sc. in MIS from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a Ph.D. in MIS from Auburn University, all of which he completed in just five years.Prof. Mbarika has received four Lifetime Achievement Awards, including the prestigious Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award from U.S. President Joe Biden, recognizing his transformative contributions to education. With over 300 academic publications—including books, peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, and book chapters—he has made a lasting impact on the field.
