ABOUT VIVIAN YU
With a combined passion for sustainable development and geospatial technology, I am a geographer that is motivated to promote environmental, economic and social sustainability in communities through well-developed planning strategies with the utilization of GIS and remote sensing technologies. I am a graduate of the Honours Geography and Environmental Management program at the University of Waterloo. Throughout my university career, I had the opportunity to be involved in several research groups including the Applied Geomatics Research Laboratory and the Partnership for Canada-Caribbean Climate Change Adaptation. I was also the teaching assistant for courses such as Introduction to GIS and Computer Cartography. Motivated academically and involved with student life and volunteer activities, I became the recipient of the Casey Family Undergraduate Scholarship in 2012 and the Herb Nemeth Award in 2014.As a co-op student, I had the opportunity to work in several different companies. I have worked for Statistics Canada, GO Transit/Metrolinx and the Regional Municipality of York. During these work placements, I was able to develop and demonstrate my leadership, communication/presentation, and interpersonal skills as well as exhibit creative and innovative competence. For the work reports I have written for GO Transit and York Region, I became the recipient of the Faculty of Environment Co-op Work Report Award for Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 for best-written communication.I still have a lot to experience. If given the opportunity, I would love to share my skills I have gained from my education to foster sustainable communities.
