ABOUT VIVIAN TSANG

Vivian is interested in the intersections between healthcare innovation and the empowerment of vulnerable population groups. She is the current CEO of The HOPE Initiative, a pan-Canadian charity which is recognized locally through a 2017 City of Vancouver Award of excellence, provincially through a Medal of Good Citizenship by the Government of BC, and internationally through funding from the Clinton Foundation and One Young World. A near decade of work brought forth annual youth mentorship programs for over students in Canada and a longitudinal portfolio series used by shelters in over four provinces for annual fundraising. Partnerships with Covenant House, WISH Foundation, and BCCDC were formed to improve the lives of people who are vulnerably housed. Vivian has also been involved in innovating new overdose monitoring devices during the height of the opioid crisis. Vivian was recognized as an ambassador for Canada\'s 150th Celebrations and spoke at We Day to over youth about empowerment and the importance of resilience and has shared stages with world-renowned artists and activists including Beyoncé, Emma Watson, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. She has taken a similar approach to work in low and middle income countries. In sub Saharan Africa, Vivian worked on a twelve-year project implementing the World Health Organization HealthWISE toolkit to improve hospitals in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique. She also worked with the Special Program for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases, a joint effort between the WHO, Unicef, World Bank, and UNDP to scale tuberculosis prophylaxis in endemic communities in Zambia. For her work, Vivian was a recipient of the 2020 Canadian Medical Association Young Leaders Award. Vivian is also involved in a variety of paediatric advocacy projects. She founded a national program titled KidsCan linking 12 paediatric hospitals together to form the first pan-Canadian young person\'s research advisory group. She is a Co-investigator and a Director on the Board of the Canadian Childhood Cannabinoid Clinical Trials network and a collaborator on the $2.5M CHEER Initiative aiming to harmonize clinical trial applications for multi-site studies in Canada.
