ABOUT VIVIANA IRIS NOVELLI

Viviana Iris Novelli is an Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer) in Civil Engineering at Cardiff University. With a PhD in Earthquake Engineering from University College London (UCL), she boasts an outstanding record in both industry and academia.Viviana’s international and multidisciplinary research focuses on developing multi-risk decision support tools to reduce human losses and minimize socio-economic disruption in Official Development Assistance (ODA) countries. Her key research objectives include:** Creating a robust Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) framework for earthquakes, flood and landslide management, addressing cascading effects.** Assessing current and future risks through probabilistic hazard analysis, exposure predictive models, and vulnerability estimation approaches.** Engaging stakeholders and providing decision-making support across multiple disaster stages.Career Highlights:** Principal Investigator of Projects Funded by EPSRC and NERC: Leading projects aimed at developing decision-making tools to strengthen the resilience of structures and infrastructure to multi-risk scenarios and climate change adaptation.** Research Associate in Earthquake Impact at University of Bristol (20••••21): Worked on the EPSRC-Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) project PREPARE, enhancing seismic resilience in East African countries.** Seismic/Structural Engineer at AECOM, Manchester (20••••18): Coordinated seismic evaluation projects for British Embassies, DFID offices, and FCO residential properties in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.** Research Assistant at University of Bath (20••••12): Contributed to the European FP-7 project PERPETUATE, assessing seismic vulnerability and proposing retrofitting strategies for cultural heritage sites in European and Mediterranean countries.** Engineer at EUCENTRE, Pavia, Italy (20••••10): Gained substantial knowledge in finite element approaches while working on earthquake engineering projects.
