I reviewed a Fortune 500 Pharmaceutical company’s legal operations; identified pain points; provided recommendations in areas most suitable for services by alternative legal service providers: intellectual property, litigation support, contract management, & legal research. This allowed the client to prioritize initiatives & get a clear picture for future strategies SPEARHEADING COST SAVING STRATEGIES When cost savings are needed, I deliver in multiple ways: Law firm consolidation/convergence can save approx. 20% of spend. Billing guidelines enforcement & audits can save hundreds of thousands of dollars initially & then roughly 1-2% of spend. It has the added benefit of bringing law firms into compliance in the long term. At one company, law firm management process improvement & consolidation reduced the number of law firms from approx. 700 to 7. The consolidated panel reduced outside counsel hourly rates by 40% & overall spend by 35%, saving tens of millions per year DRIVING PROACTIVE WORK PROCESSES TO ALIGN WITH STRATEGY I work to enable a legal department to work more proactively with the business to help with strategic initiatives. I analyze what lawyers are doing, & shift mundane tasks to other, less expensive resources, so lawyers have more time to focus on strategic aspects. I can also automate sales agreements as far as possible. One company had no contract lifecycle management system in place. I initiated & drove RFP to choose & implement a contract lifecycle management system; success achieved by allying & working with Sales, Procurement & Finance.
