ABOUT VITO PAOLO PASTORE

My expertise includes algorithms design and implementation for the application of machine learning to problems of computer vision and of biological interest. Currently, my research is focused on exploiting machine learning and customized deep learning algorithms for computer vision, with application of supervised and unsupervised learning. Specifically, I am interested in unsupervised learning and anomaly detection algorithms. I developed two novel anomaly detection algorithms and an efficient pipeline for creating smart detector that can monitor the ocean environment. I am currently developing data-driven models based on artificial neural networks for relating function and morphology of cell image data. An extensive computer vision knowledge including development of customized segmentation algorithm and python tools with Graphical User Interface (GUI) complete my current research profile. Also, I developed During my PhD a detailed expertise in time series analysis (I worked specifically on neuronal spike trains and time series) inventing an algorithm that allowed to identify inhibitory functional links between neurons (state of the art methods was only able to identify excitatory links). Finally, I have excellent skills in object-oriented programming acquired since the bachelor thesis when I started programming in C#, I am currently programing mainly in python. During the PhD, I developed two informatics toolboxes with Graphical User Interfaces (TOOLCONNECT and SPICODYN), in the context of analysis of electrophysiological recordings of in vitro neural networks coupled to micro-electrodes arrays (MEAs).
