ABOUT VISHAL KHETPAL

I am a second-year fellow in cardiovascular disease at Brown University, expected to graduate in 2026. My clinical interests lie in preventive cardiology, cardiometabolics, and multimodality imaging. My research interests lie in articulating external determinants of cardiovascular health. In my career, I hope to work with others to use big data and imaging to identify high-risk individuals early in cardiovascular diseases, and design systems-based interventions to address their disease upstream. I am also a writer, with a decade of experience publishing on the intersection of medicine, policy, and society. My essays have appeared in STAT News, Slate, VICE, and other publications, have been syndicated in NPR, Fast Company, and the Daily Beast, and have been cited in the New York Times and Vox. I aim to bridge clinical insights with broader conversations that shape the future of healthcare. Prior to attending medical school at Brown, I earned an MSc in Global Health from the London School of Economics, where I received the Brian Abel-Smith Prize for Best Dissertation, and an AB in Anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis. I am passionate about advancing equitable cardiovascular care, communicating ideas in medicine to public audiences, and fostering innovation in health systems.
