ABOUT VIOLET COMBER-WILEN
Violet is an award-winning public radio reporter, host and producer passionate about inspiring & enacting change in local and statewide communities. She is currently a General Assignment Reporter with WHYY\'s Billy Penn team. In this role, she creates digital and radio content about arts & culture, education and transportation news around Philadelphia. Violet has a strong background in producing quick-turn news stories on a daily deadline, producing multimedia content in multiple public radio and TV newsrooms and helping to create and facilitate creative projects. Throughout her career, Violet has had the opportunity to report on a variety of topics. In her role as the Statewide Daily News Reporter for Indiana Public Broadcasting, Violet\'s work included in-depth coverage on Medicaid and Indiana’s unwinding of recipients, continuing coverage on Indiana\'s legislative session & important bills, stories on business and technology expansion efforts throughout the state and interviews with statewide and national lawmakers (such as Kamala Harris and Mike Pence). During her time interning for Tampa Bay\'s NPR station, WUSF, and reporting for the North Central Florida NPR affiliate, WUFT News, she regularly covered multiple topics - including education, arts and culture, health, business and environment. With WUFT News, Violet also helped to create a web-based newscast during COVID, anchored a 30-minute weekly newscast and worked to create and produce a daily news podcast. While working various part- and full-time journalism roles, Violet also gained skills in marketing, sales and customer service through various roles at yoga studios, restaurants and summer camps. Violet has a B.S. in Telecommunications from the University of Florida and a minor in Italian Studies. Outside of work, she enjoys running, doing yoga, traveling and volunteering in the community.
