ABOUT VINCENT SPRENKLE
At GSL, we are passionate about developing technology that stores electrical energy to meet demand when needed–a breakthrough in electricity distribution that we\'ve been striving for over the past decade. As the Director of the Grid Storage Launchpad (GSL) at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), I lead the charge in advancing next-generation storage solutions alongside a talented team. Our work is crucial in bolstering the nation\'s global competitiveness and making energy more affordable, abundant, and secure. At GSL, we aim to accelerate the development, validation, and commercial readiness of new grid storage technologies for the power grid, helping the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) fulfill long-term energy storage needs.Throughout my career, I\'ve been fortunate to contribute to this field in meaningful ways. I currently hold 32 patents for work on fuel cells, batteries, and electrochemical devices, with 17 currently pending. Being named the Distinguished Inventor of Battelle in 2017 and PNNL Inventor of the Year in 2014 were cherished milestones. Additionally, I serve as Co-Director of DOE’s Energy Storage Grand Challenge Laboratory Coordinating Team and Director of the Rapid Operational Validation Initiative.
