ABOUT VINCENT PAGLIONI

I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Systems Engineering at Colorado State University. My research centers around characterizing the risk, reliability, and resiliency of complex socio-technical systems like nuclear power plants. I earned my Ph.D. in Reliability Engineering from UMD in 2023. During my time at UMD, I worked as a Reactor Operator at the Maryland University Training Reactor. My research and teaching in risk analysis was recognized with a Clark Doctoral Fellowship, Northrop Grumman Graduate Teaching Fellowship, and Future Faculty Program placement. Prior to joining UMD, I worked as a Nuclear Test Engineer for the U.S. Department of Defense developing maintenance instructions for nuclear-cognizant components of fast-attack submarines. I have a Bachelors of Science in Nuclear and Radiological Engineering, with a minor in Mathematics from Georgia Institute of Technology (2017). My primary fields of interest include human reliability analysis, nuclear reactor safety and accident diagnosis/prognosis. Other interests include energy policy, economics, and politics. Outside of academics, I enjoy running, reading, and cooking. For more, visit my website at
