About Vincent Bellwoar

As a psychologist and practice owner for 30 years, I grew Springfield Psychological into one of the largest outpatient behavioral health practices in the country. Springfield Psychological now operates in PA, NJ and DE and employs over 250 staff. We joined the Refresh Mental Health Network in 2019 and in 2022 Refresh was acquired by Optum. In 2022 I moved into the role of Senior Advisor for Refresh’s national network. There are tremendous opportunities to deliver cost-effective behavioral healthcare the right way, so that patients experience treatment success and return to health more quickly. Doing so requires research-based clinical interventions, efficient—not burdensome—practice operations, and the ability to partner with payers in developing value-based contracts. I am using these skills to focus on two goals: 1.) Move behavioral health from its isolated silo to one of integration with other medical providers, especially primary care. PCPs have ready access to our providers and receive quality feedback on patient progress. We are partnering with payers in innovative programming with the shared goal of improving patient care, thereby reducing the total medical spend. Behavioral health plays a key role in overall consumer health, and behavioral health integration—both virtual and live—can be done in an efficient and cost-effective manner. 2.) Use the TOP (Treatment Outcome Package) to advance clinical practice throughout the Refresh Network. Incoming patients are first assessed with the TOP, then matched to the best therapist, and then continually assessed throughout treatment. Patient and therapist review TOP results in therapy, just like how a PCP reviews bloodwork with patients. Using the TOP significantly improves patient outcomes, as is documented in randomized, double-blind research. This is a very exciting time in healthcare! By integrating with Primary Care while using the TOP to achieve exceptional results, Refresh Mental Health is transforming healthcare!
