ABOUT VINCE VERLAAN

Vince is an immensely experienced designer and facilitator of participatory and solution-oriented meetings, workshops, forums/conferences, and online events that bring people together to grapple with complex issues. He also designs and implements consultations and longer-running engagement strategies, and builds networks of supporters for initiatives. Social license to operate is another specialty.Vince has coordinated large engagement projects, internal change initiatives, policy reviews, and program development efforts, working on a wide range of topics in the public, private, non-profit and academic sectors. With a special skill for team-building, leadership, cross-cultural communication, and conflict resolution, no project or issue is too challenging. Clients include Squamish First Nation, BC Hydro, the Province of Alberta, Port MetroVancouver, Special Olympics International (DC), Canadian Institutes for Health Research, Credit Counselling Society of BC, Sechelt First Nation, SPARK EU, Privy Council of the Govt of Canada, TransLink, University of British Columbia, Health Canada, Civic Synergy (USA), FINCA Canada, City of Winnipeg, City of Red Deer, City of Calgary, City of Kelowna, and the Township of Langley. Vince is also an organizational development and strategic planning expert who helps organizations improve their internal dynamics, bringing 25+ years professional and volunteer experience, international and domestically. He has authored 12 guides on this work, has trained hundreds of professionals, and taught “the practice of engagement and civic dialogue” at SFU Continuing Studies for a decade.Vince draws from the \"Art of Hosting Transformative Conversations\" and uses dialogue-based techniques like circle, fishbowl, 1/2/4/All, world cafe, open space, and interview matrix. He maintains a large set of interactive tools, creating new ones as needed. Recent assignments won awards from IAP2, PIBC, CIP, the City of Vancouver, the Red Cross Society of Canada, and ASLA.
