About Vignesh Lakshminarayanan
I work on the decisions and operating models that allow global Commercial Real Estate platforms to scale with confidence, defining how work moves across geographies, how judgment is embedded into delivery, and how governance holds up as complexity increases. My experience spans across origination, valuation, asset management, servicing, risk and controls, and the operating structures that support institutional real estate businesses at scale. At Wells Fargo, I lead the India Commercial Real Estate organisation, working closely with U.S. leadership to shape how India participates in the business. The role involves building and evolving the operating model, strengthening governance, and developing teams that are trusted to take ownership rather than execute instructions. Over time, this has meant repositioning India from a transactional support unit to a fully integrated extension of the U.S. CRE platform, with responsibility across origination, asset management, portfolio monitoring, servicing, and controls. Before Wells Fargo, I spent several years in global real estate investment and asset management environments, partnering with institutional investment, fund management, and operating teams. Those roles shaped my understanding of how investment decisions are made, how risk is assessed at the asset level, and how insight needs to travel across functions to be useful. Earlier in my career, I built a strong foundation in real assets investing and capital markets, combining hands-on analysis with people leadership and portfolio-level responsibility. What I am known for:• Turning complex, fragmented delivery models into clear, accountable operating structures• Building India-based teams that are trusted with judgment-led work, not just execution• Making sure governance and controls evolve alongside scale, not after the fact• Leading transitions and change with stability, clarity, and minimal disruption• Developing leadership bench strength and culture that value ownership, continuity, and partnershipI believe global real estate platforms succeed when strong teams are trusted with real responsibility, senior stakeholders are engaged as partners rather than overseers, and operating models work seamlessly across geographies without losing context or control. My work consistently sits at the intersection of team leadership, senior-level stakeholder engagement, and global delivery, building organisations that scale with clarity, make sound decisions, and stay closely aligned to the business as complexity grows.
Experience
Executive Director - Commercial Real Estate
Feb 2023 — Present · Hyderabad, IN
Joined Wells Fargo at a time when the India Commercial Real Estate organisation was largely positioned as a transactional support unit. Took on the mandate to scale the platform and reposition it as a judgment-led, fully integrated extension of the US CRE business, with ownership across origination, asset management, servicing, governance, and controls. Over time, the role evolved from scaling delivery to shaping the operating model itself. Focused on changing how India was perceived and leveraged by the business from execution support to a trusted partner involved in decision-making, risk ownership, and long-term value creation. Worked closely with US leadership to build confidence in India’s ability to handle complexity, judgment-based work, and business-level responsibility. In parallel, I placed strong emphasis on people and culture. I built a stable leadership bench, prioritising internal growth, continuity, and clear accountability. Beyond delivery, I remained closely involved in shaping the site culture, leading employee impact initiatives and contributing to firmwide governance through my role on the Internal POSH Committee. Together, these efforts helped create a more engaged, resilient organisation that could scale responsibly while staying aligned to the firm’s values.Highlights:• Scaled and reshaped the CRE organisation while redesigning the delivery model from business-line alignment to a functional structure adopted across lines of business.• Expanded India’s mandate from execution to ownership by building asset management capability and embedding portfolio-level responsibility within India teams.• Led a complex divestiture of the commercial mortgage servicing business, coordinating across legal, compliance, M&A, technology, infrastructure, and business stakeholders to ensure continuity and stability.• Established control execution and ownership from India, reinforcing confidence in governance and risk management.
