About Vignesh Kumar

I am currently pursuing an MS in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at IIT Madras, where I am part of the AI4Bharat lab under the guidance of Prof. Mitesh Khapra. My interest lies at the intersection of Generative AI, Applied NLP, and Computer Vision, with a focus on building systems that combine deep learning with strong mathematical foundations to address real-world problems.I completed my B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Tirupati, where I developed a solid grounding in image processing, deep learning, and machine learning. This background has shaped my interest in designing and understanding AI systems across both vision and language domains. Along this journey, I secured an All India Rank of 149 in GATE 2026 (Data Science & Artificial Intelligence), placing in the top ~0.2% nationwide in my first attempt through self directed preparation, an experience that further strengthened my fundamentals and problem solving approach.I am particularly interested in generative modeling, multimodal learning, and applied NLP. I enjoy working on problems that require both research depth and strong engineering intuition, and I aim to contribute to building impactful, real-world AI systems.
