ABOUT VICTOR JOHN

Victor St. John is a tenure track Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University (OSU) within the John Glenn College of Public Affairs, and a faculty affiliate of OSU’s Criminal Justice Research Center. He earned a Ph.D. in criminal justice at John Jay College of Criminal Justice | CUNY Graduate Center in New York; M.A. in criminal justice with a criminal law specialization at John Jay College of Criminal Justice; and B.S. in criminology at SUNY Old Westbury. He is also a Research Scientist at Child Trends, where he is Principal Investigator for an impact and implementation evaluation for the PREPARE reentry program based in New York, and a Deputy Director for the U.S. Department of Education National Technical Assistance Center for the Education of Neglected or Delinquent Children and Youth.Victor’s professional experience in the field of criminology and criminal justice began in 2010. Notably, Victor served as the Director of Research and Analysis for the New York City Board of Correction. Prior to, he supervised juvenile detention facilities under the New York Close to Home Initiative; facilitated cognitive based interventions with incarcerated youth on Rikers Island for the first social impact bond in the United States; and he evaluated and provided technical support for various government and NGO initiatives (e.g, NYC’s Mayoral Action Plan for Neighborhood Safety) while at the John Jay College Research and Evaluation Center.Victor’s experience also includes the instruction of criminal justice courses at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and for Rutgers University in conjunction with the New Jersey Scholarship and Transformative Education in Prison. He was also an Assistant Professor at Saint Louis University in Missouri within the Criminology and Criminal Justice program housed in the School of Social Work and College of Public Health and Social Justice.
