ABOUT VICTOR SAMI
My journey from a Bachelor’s in Biology with a minor in Chemistry to becoming a VP of Digital Innovation and Data has been driven by curiosity and a passion for leveraging technology to solve complex challenges. After two years of chemistry at Unilever, I co-founded a PC retail and IT services business. It was an incredible experience where I gained a healthy respect for leadership, value generation through technology, and profitability. I later leveraged my skills at Fortune 200 companies, taking on progressively larger roles at GE, Synchrony, SickKids, and McKesson. At GE, I joined a Cardiology support team in a budding area of healthcare IT. As the Cardio IT business grew, I did as well. The growth of the customer base and heavy involvement in the release of redesigned global products offered a tremendous opportunity to demonstrate a wide range of skills. At Synchrony, I established two very successful enterprise-wide initiatives. GE Capital spun off GE in 2014 and modernized its technology. My first role was to quickly implement Microsoft’s newest collaboration suite and migrate off legacy platforms. With over employees and contractors focused on the business and separation activities, change management was key. After AI became a strategic initiative at Synchrony, I led the launch of an automation center of excellence. We built a highly successful program and blazed a trail for the digital worker and other AI capabilities. At SickKids, I worked with renowned clinicians and researchers to further the AI in Medicine (AIM) strategic initiative. We delivered a multi-year strategy, 5-year budgets, a repeatable AI development process, and training. My team also initiated AIM’s cloud strategy, developed several clinical AI use cases, and successfully completed the first silent trial of a ML based clinical solution at SickKids. After leading automation and AI teams, I learned firsthand how critical data is and I returned to Synchrony to focus on exactly that. I led data engineering teams and architecture for a large and complex environment. Engineering supported critical Credit processes for over 70M active account holders. Architecture built a cloud modernization strategy and drove various aspects of data governance. Now at McKesson Canada, I am leading digital transformation for the organization and working towards exciting and ambitious AI goals. The teams are delivering value to the business today with AI, Data, and Decision Intelligence, and through these solutions, building the runway required to achieve our long-term goals.
