ABOUT VICTORIA T.
Victoria Turnbill is currently working towards a PhD in Neuroscience at UCLA in the Neuroscience Interdepartmental Program (NSIDP). She worked previously (20••••23) as a research technologist under Dr. Frances Northington of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where she primarily studied neonatal hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) and intersections between HIE and predisposition to neurodegenerative disease as well as potential treatments of these conditions. She earned her BA in Biological Sciences in 2017 from Mt. Holyoke College and her MS in Biology from Chatham University in 2019. During her time at those institutions, she built a strong foundation in evolutionary biology working in the labs of Dr. Patricia Brennan and Dr. Michael Collyer and completing a Master\'s thesis in the evolution of sexual dimorphism in niche populations of Cyprinodon fishes. She also served as an adjunct professor at Chatham University developing and teaching an introductory laboratory class and expanding upon her previous years of teaching and professional experience. Her entrepreneurial drive is showcased by her successful art and tutoring businesses which she has maintained for several years now alongside her academic and professional roles and her continued freelance relationship with former employer XICON Solutions, LLC; additionally, she is currently in pursuit of independent patents pertaining to novel therapeutic and recreational exercise equipment and laboratory animal feeder mechanisms. Since high school, Victoria has been taking supplemental courses at Northern Virginia Community College, where she completed classes as recently as Spring 2021, and she has taken advantage of training opportunities and certifications available through Chatham and Johns Hopkins Universities including courses in cell culture and mouse pathobiology and phenotyping. Victoria now hopes to maintain valued relationships with mentors and colleagues and build upon existing interests and skillsets - taking full advantage of the opportunities available to her at UCLA and beyond.
