About Victoria Hamilton

As a full fledged computational linguist, I am interested in working with tech companies to ensure they are implimenting Human in the Loop practices and ethical AI. In my previous role, I worked to ensure that unsafe LLM outputs don\'t make it to users and that all LLM prompts are useful and accurate. Right now I am open to my next role and hope to continue making Generative AI safer for us all.How did I get into computational linguistics you might ask? Well it\'s kind of a long story.I first got interested in music as a middle schooler. I didn’t know what to expect when signing up for sixth grade band, but I know I wanted to understand how to make noises come out of that shiny trumpet at the back of my parent’s closet. It caught my attention years ago and I was finally given the chance to unlock its secrets… and unlock them I did. I spent all of middle school, high school, and some college understanding the complexities of music. Through all those years, one thing that was said to me has stuck with me to this day, my high school band director told us, “Play beyond the music you see on the page.” At first, I didn’t understand, but when we were performing one night, I lost myself within the music, not sure I was even reading what was in front of me. Then I understood. You might be wondering, “What the heck does music have to do with where you are now?” To answer your question, it has everything to do with where I am now. Music is a language and understanding that it has that deeper underlying meaning, made me want to understand the underlying meaning of natural human language. Now that’s how I ended up studying linguistics. “But wait!” you protest. “What about computer science?” It’s true, as a computational linguist, I do have a big computer science interest as well. The story of that interest is a lot simpler. Basically, my father is very interested in technology and learning about technology was my way of spending time with him. I found that I really did enjoy computer science and wanted to find a way to incorporate that into my linguistic studies.
