CUAiris a project team focused on designing, and manufacturing autonomous eVTOL UAV.Placed 1st in fixed-wings at the AUVSI SUAS international competition.• Designed a composite tapered wing. Performed strength-to-weightoptimization calculations using MATLAB to decrease weight, cost, andmanufacturing time by iterating through materials. Achieved a lift-to-drag ratioof 8.16, determined through CFD analysis and Athena Vortex Lattice (AVL).• Manufactured wings, tail, and fuselage of a 12-ft wingspan eVTOL aircraft usingcarbon fiber, fiberglass, and epoxy resin composite wet layup process.• Optimized weight of aircraft tail to fuselage component. Optimization done viatopology optimization using ANSYS, resulting in a system weight reductionfrom 117.7g to 37.3g. Validated structural integrity through finite elementanalysis using ANSYS with a 22N static load for 3D-printed PLA filaments.• Designed wing-to-fuselage connection able to sustain lift loads up to 670N bytransferring loads to structural skin of the fuselage. Used Solidworks andnylon-carbon fiber 3D printing filament. Assessed structural integrity usingANSYS, improving safety factorfrom 2.825 to 5.254 and reducing mass by 52%.• Responsible for scheduling, logistics, and integration for a team of 6 engineers.Taught workshops on SolidWorks and AVL to groups of 15 engineers.
