ABOUT VICKY ABIHSIRA

I can do hard things. It\'s a phrase I first heard during the pandemic on Dr. Becky Kennedy\'s Instagram page and it immediately resonated with me. Well, to be honest, at first, it was more like \"I don\'t feel like I can do hard things right now.\" I was pregnant, with a one-year old at home, parenting and working full-time during a pandemic, with no family nearby, no visits from friends (#socialdistancing), and no caretaking help. The days where I was in meetings from 9-5 and then spending the evenings catching up on emails and “the real work” felt endless. The days I got to see all my toddler\'s milestones were joyous. I started repeating this mantra to myself during hard moments - tough leadership decisions I had to make at work, difficult conversations with friends, tantrums with my toddler. And as anyone who has slowly given themselves more compassion, you start to realize that your mantra is true. I’ve led a team during lots of volatile changes. I’ve grown my team from 1 to 5. I’ve developed new skills, learning how to put together a marketing strategy, which departments to align with, what metrics to measure. I’ve learned to be a good leader – one who is okay to have difficult conversations, because it’s better to be honest than someone who brushes things under the rug. I can juggle, multi-task, see the big picture, and execute, all while nursing an infant and juggling an active family life. Oh, and I can write (hopefully you’ve stuck with me so far).I’ve learned how to do hard things. There are lots of marketing leaders out there. There are lots of good writers out there. But I think what I bring to the table are more than just my marketing and content expertise – but my traits. I can do hard things. I can persevere and juggle lots of different things on my plate. I can take a step back and see the big picture of what we’re trying to achieve. I care. I tell the truth, even when it’s hard (especially when it’s hard). I can do hard things.
