ABOUT VICKIE YBARRA
I am a mission-driven leader and scholar with an interdisciplinary background that provides me the ability to analyze and intervene in complex systems and problems. For three decades I have worked at the executive level of organizations with compelling missions to improve the health and well-being of those furthest from opportunity. I hold degrees in Nursing and Public Health from the University of Washington, and Political Science/Public Policy from the University of New Mexico where I was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation scholar. I am a skilled quantitative researcher, with numerous research publications related to public policy, and child/family health and wellbeing. Outside my busy day job, I maintain an active research agenda as an independent scholar. My research interests and expertise include Latino politics and voting rights, immigration policy and politics, health equity, and state and local public policy. I\'ve recently started posting about my research on my new site (https://vickieybarra.com), and I have a forthcoming book,\"Protecting Voting Rights in an Unlikely Place: The Local Struggle for Latino Political Inclusion in Yakima.\" I began my career as a home visiting nurse, and over the course of 21 years in the Yakima Valley I helped build a community healthcare system, I led the implementation and evaluation of numerous family support programs for low-income families, and I led on greater equity in the school system. For the past nine years I\'ve worked in state government leading change and helping to create Washington\'s third largest executive agency.
