After having served the U.S. Navy as a Chief Engineer during the Vietnam War and then having spent 12 years serving major medical centers in Southern California as director of facilities and construction, Vic Braden founded Cornerstone over 30 years ago to provide design and construction management services to health care and commercial enterprises.He has directed project managers, interfaced with architects, engineers, O.S.H.P.D. and authorities having jurisdiction.Vic has consulted for facilities management and plant operations projects, Joint Commission Accreditation and Fire & Life Safety Corrections.His duties have included managing annual facility operating budgets, management of plant operations, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, biomedical, capital construction improvement projects and remodel and all repair divisions.He has served as Owners Representative for the construction of two major towers and expansions at.Centinela Hospital Medical Center – 404 beds – square feet.The Sisters of Little Company of Mary Hospital – 290 beds – square feetOther significant projects that he has led include:Old South Bay Hospital – addition of a 50-seat chapelCentinela Hospital – additional Emergency Power Plant 2500 H.P. boilers and 1.2 million ton A/C chiller with three 750 KW emergency generatorsThe Sisters of Little Company of Mary – Four patient rooms at a time over 18 months Complete remodel and refurbishment of 150 bed skilled nursing facility including all mechanical and all electricalIrvine Regional Medical Center (owned by Hoag) – Open heart surgery – Surgical Cath Lab Unique challenge was that the lab was situated on the 2nd floor inside of a surgery suite (had to approach the project from the outside of the building’s 2nd floor via bridges over scaffolding)Successfully completed six Joint Commission Hospital Surveys resulting in a maximum accreditation for all facilities.
