ABOUT VERONIKA KIRSANOVA

What first drew me toward occupational and physical therapy was realizing how fragile independence can be. I have seen firsthand how an injury, illness, or neurological change can suddenly turn everyday actions such as getting dressed, cooking a meal, returning to work, or simply moving without pain into overwhelming obstacles. What stayed with me was not just the physical limitation but how deeply it affected confidence, identity, and overall quality of life. That experience sparked my commitment to pursue a field where restoring strength and mobility also means restoring autonomy, dignity, and a sense of self. I am a Psychology and Exercise Science student at Tulane University, preparing for graduate training in occupational therapy and behavioral health. I became interested in rehabilitation after seeing how quickly illness or injury can impact independence, confidence, and identity. That experience shaped my commitment to helping people regain not just function, but a sense of self. My academic work focuses on the intersection of movement, mental health, and recovery. I have contributed to a systematic review and meta-analysis on smartphone-based interventions for substance use, gaining experience in data extraction, intervention coding, and evidence synthesis. I am seeking clinical exposure, shadowing, and research opportunities in patient-centered rehabilitation and occupational therapy.
