As manager of the news and social media office I\'m responsible for videos, news releases and social media campaigns that keep the world engaged with NASA space missions studying Earth, the planets, asteroids, comets, stars and galaxies. Through social media we reach over 21 million followers across Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and more. In 2013, we took home two Webby Awards and the SXSW Interactive Award for our @MarsCuriosity rover campaign. My work has been featured in the NY Times, ABC, NBC, Mashable, CNET and others. I created NASA\'s first accounts on Twitter followed by NASA\'s first \"Tweetup\" & Ustream channels. I\'ve guest blogged for Gizmodo, served as panelist/moderator at SXSW (20••••15) and have been an invited speaker to address national and international conferences, businesses and organizations ranging from Warner Bros. to NATO. In 2010, Forbes.com listed me as one of 20 Inspiring Women to Follow on Twitter. In 2012, Mashable.com included me on their list of 15 Twitter Accounts Every Space Lover Should Follow. Prior to joining NASA-JPL, I worked at CNN focusing on technology, the environment and space coverage.

ABOUT VERONICA MCGREGOR

Senior communications leader with deep experience guiding public engagement, digital strategy, and institutional storytelling at global scale. For more than two decades at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, I led the Digital News and Media team, setting strategy and overseeing news, video, social media, and interactive storytelling for missions exploring Earth, the planets, asteroids, comets, stars, and galaxies.I oversaw NASA JPL’s digital platforms, including the agency’s flagship website, jpl.nasa.gov, and helped shape how complex science and engineering were communicated clearly, accurately, and with public trust at the forefront. I worked closely with senior leadership, including legal, ethics, and agency teams, advising on public disclosure and media strategy, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, and the responsible release of information. The team produced hundreds of news releases and feature articles annually, along with dozens of multimedia and interactive projects.I led major communications campaigns for NASA missions from early concept through launch and execution, coordinating across science, engineering, leadership, and external partners. Under my leadership, the team stayed at the forefront of digital storytelling, including early adoption of virtual reality, live 360-degree video, and interactive live-streamed events. This work contributed directly to back-to-back Emmy Awards in 2018 and 2019 for Outstanding Original Interactive Program. In 2008, I created NASA’s first Twitter account,@MarsPhoenix, helping pioneer social media as a communications tool for science and government organizations. I later led multi-platform social strategy for accounts reaching millions of followers worldwide. To deepen public engagement, I created NASA Tweetups (later known as NASA Socials). More than 150 events were held at NASA centers across the U.S, converting thousands of space enthusiasts into long-term digital ambassadors. The program was later adopted by private industry and international space agencies. My work has been recognized with Webby, Shorty, Emmy, and SXSW Interactive awards. From NASA, I received the Exceptional Achievement Medal and the Exceptional Service Medal, as well as the Space Communicator Award from RNASA and the Aerospace Awareness Award from Women In Aerospace.Earlier in my career, I worked at CNN as a news producer, experience that continues to inform my approach to leadership, clarity, and decision-making in complex environments.
