ABOUT VERONICA MURILLO

AMFT #120789, hours as of May 28, 2025I am a social justice oriented, culturally sensitive, and goal oriented individual who aspires to help minority communities and people under the age of twenty-five-years -old. I am someone who is dedicated to being mindful of both my self and my clients. My previous experience has been working with children through Reading Partners and Independence High School\'s child center. I had been involved in building up their reading and social skills. I have done volunteer work for the YWCA as an advocate for domestic violence where I provided legal information and social support during my time at San Jose State University and did training as a sexual assault adovate. I had decided to volunteer at Gardner\'s Family Resource center where we provided low-income families with health services for children under five through the first 5 program. I worked with children in a limited capacity and I enjoyed my time there. I did six months in under Gardner\'s IOP program as a mental health therapist (MHT) for their IOP program. I worked with clients between the ages of six to six teen who were diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety, and depression. Currently, I am working in the Calworks program where I work with adults who were in the foster care system or on the verge of being homeless. They have been diagnosed with depression, PTSD, and co-occuring disorders. I am beginning to do assessments and diagnosis of clients, which has been a humbling and insightful experience.I received my Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Correctional Psychology and emphasis in MFT on June 2020 from Santa Clara University. I worked with children ages 6 months old to six years old as a substitute teacher at Kids on Campus. Being there taught me how important is is to remain calm and talk in low, melodic tones to get and maintain attention.During my last year of Santa Clara University, I did my internship at Cristo Rey San Jose Jesuit High School where I worked with every grade level. We worked on skill building, coping strategies, and symptom reduction. It was such an enlightening experience and it further solidified my passion as a therapist.As a therapist, I am well aware San Jose, California. I was born and raised in San Jose, California with my dad who was born in Mexico. I consider myself lucky to be called a Latina / Chicana because of our embedded beliefs about work and family. I believe my culture has played a significant role in my growth as a therapist. MBTI: INFJ-T
