ABOUT VERNON STEWART
I lead the Department of Community Resources for El Paso County, Colorado with a people-first approach built on clarity, accountability, and trust. In my role as Executive Director and County Veteran Service Officer, I help oversee strategy, performance, and culture across Justice Services, Veteran Services, and Environmental Services. Each division plays a different role in serving the community. Justice Services focuses on programs that support accountability, coordination, and better outcomes within the justice system. Veteran Services helps veterans and their families access earned benefits and navigate often complicated systems of support. Environmental Services helps protect public health and community well-being through environmental oversight and service delivery. As part of the county’s executive leadership team, I work across departments to strengthen coordination, improve systems, and support teams in doing work that matters. I believe people do their best work when they feel respected, supported, and clear on the mission.I try to lead in a way that helps people feel heard, trusted, and equipped to do good work. For me, that means being clear, removing barriers when possible, and creating space for people to grow, contribute, and take pride in what they do.
