Kings Mountain, NC, US

Own the full engineering scope for the KMM Processing Facility and all Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI); accountable for the Engineering Execution Plan, design basis, and deliverable register from FEL-2 through Issued-for-Construction. • Serve as the primary technical interface between Albemarle and the EPCM engineering organization; set and enforce engineering standards across multi-discipline scope (process, mechanical, civil/structural, electrical, I&C, piping). • Lead stage-gate progression, define gate deliverables and readiness criteria, and drive capital cost optimization through multi-stakeholder technical alignment across owner teams, EPCM contractor, and equipment vendors. • Lead HSE-in-design integration; ensure process safety actions are formally closed with evidence prior to key funding and approval gates. • Lead technical governance for federally funded program compliance — coordinating with legal, compliance, and environmental teams to ensure engineering execution operates within DOE and DOD grant obligations. • Develop and mentor a team of discipline engineers, project engineers, and project managers; building organizational engineering capability for sustained delivery through FEED and detailed design phases.

ABOUT SHUBHAM VERMA

I lead engineering governance and technical assurance for the Kings Mountain Mine Project at Albemarle — one of the largest domestic hard-rock lithium capital programs in the U.S, backed by $240M+ in U.S. Department of Energy and Department of Defense grant funding. My role sits at the intersection of deep process engineering and large-scale capital delivery: setting technical standards, owning stage-gate progression from FEL-2 through detailed design, and managing the full EPCM interface on a $1B+ program. Over 18+ years I\'ve built an unusual career arc — process engineer, plant commissioning manager, EPCM project director, owner-side program leader — working both sides of the contractor/owner relationship on hard-rock mining and mineral processing projects across North America, the EU, and South America. That dual perspective shapes how I think about every major technical and commercial decision. I hold a B.Tech from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and an M.S. in Mining and Mineral Processing from Penn State — the technical foundation — and an MBA from Duke\'s Fuqua School of Business, which I apply to capital allocation decisions, risk quantification, and the business case development that sits behind every major engineering choice on a program of this scale. Outside of project execution, I\'m deeply interested in how structured engineering knowledge and data can be applied to improve decision-making quality at the earliest stages of capital project development — the FEL-1/2 window where the most consequential choices are made with the least information. I think this space is significantly underserved and ripe for transformation. Licensed PE in CA, UT, WY, and NV. PMP certified. Co-author, SME Mining Reference Handbook 2nd Edition. NCEES PE Exam Committee — Mining and Mineral Processing.
