About Vera Brown

La Vera has worked extensively in the Guilford and Wake County Public Schools as a counseling professional. Throughout her career of nearly twenty years, she has served as a community advocate, educator, and therapist for adolescents, children, and families. La Vera is the founder and CEO of Verity & Vision, LLC, an organization whose mission is to promote the wellbeing of children and adolescents in high-poverty school districts. She is a consultant and trainer for advancing school-based mental health programs that are trauma-informed. Additionally, her community involvement in promoting healthy environments for children has expanded to include co-creator for the Hear Our Voices: Advocacy for Mothers of Color Conference. La Vera recently earned her Ph.D. from North Carolina State University within the Counselor Education program. She is a National Certified Counselor- MFP Fellow and past member and chair of the advisory board for NBCC- MFP (master level fellows). La Vera is also a Mental Health Facilitator (MHF)-Trainer for NBCC Foundation.La Vera is a speaker on the local, state, and national levels. She is passionate about ensuring the quality training of mental health professionals internationally. She is also a member of several professional organizations, including the American Counseling Association, National Board of Certified Counselors, and the North Carolina Counseling Association. During the summer of 1993, she was the writer, director, and producer of “Jacob’s Cry” Drama Production. This presentation was the result of a collaboration with Dudley Products and Bennett College. This community- based project provided approximately forty disadvantaged youth within the city of Greensboro, North Carolina, the opportunity to participate in a summer drama camp experience. With the support of local business and church sponsorship, this experience promoted leadership and outreach opportunity for children who would otherwise not have adult supervision during the summer.
