ABOUT VEENA SONAWANE BENG
I’m currently working at the Rolls-Royce (Aerospace & Defence) on Enterprise Skills Accelerator Programme, having been selected from over applicants. This milestone reflects my commitment to resilience, learning, and bringing together engineering knowledge, management expertise, and leadership skills to shape the future of aerospace and defence. Before joining Rolls-Royce, I worked at East Midlands Airport with Avolta, where I progressed from Shift Manager to Assistant Manager and acted as a Certified Trainer to train the team members. During this time, I gained a deep understanding of the non-aeronautical side of airport operations, learning how airports generate revenue through F&B and retail businesses. I led diverse teams, mentored colleagues, and supported cultural change across airport hospitality operations, always keeping travelers at the center of decision-making. Beyond my professional career, I have a strong passion for mentorship and community support. I’ve been working with the Eklavya India Foundation for the past two years, guiding young minds toward educational and career opportunities. More recently, I was offered a GO Fellowship by my UK university, where I will be helping international students transition smoothly by sharing my own journey and experiences in the UK.My journey began at Mumbai International Airport as a Trainee Safety Engineer (HSE), where I discovered my passion for aviation safety, airports and operational excellence. Along the way, I pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Project Management (UK), equipping me with the technical foundation and strategic outlook to thrive in both engineering and management. From Mumbai to the UK, from mentoring students to being selected at Rolls-Royce, every step has strengthened my belief in adaptability, perseverance, and giving back while moving forward.
