Wet lab research work on refining a sickle cell diagnostic test strip device for implementation in low- and middle-income countries, primarily Sierra Leone. This project is entirely student-led, with full autonomy in experimental design and execution, under the guidance of a faculty advisor- Planning and executing independent experiments to evaluate and enhance test strip functionality- Handling blood samples and maintaining sterile lab conditions to ensure biosafety and experimental integrity- Troubleshooting issues with lateral flow assays, including flow rate inconsistencies and reagent optimization- Contributing to the development of a low-cost, point-of-care diagnostic tool aimed at expanding early detection in underserved regions.
