About Varun e

I completed Postgraduate M.Sc.(Agri.) in Biotechnology from TNAU, Coimbatore and B.Sc.(Agri.) from UAS, Dharwad. Since from 4+ years, I trained in multi-omics application in Drug mining from medicinal plants, especially biochemistry and biotechnology aspects. Particularly, acquired a good grip on analytical instruments (LCMS, HPLC and GCMS) and well exposure towards plant tissue culture and bioinformatics tools. I worked as a Project SRF at TDU, Bangalore in the project entitled \"Development of sustainable technology for the production of anticancer chromone alkaloids, rohitukine and dysoline from Indian forest trees” - DBT for 18 months. It includes chemical mining of chromone alkaloids from Meliaceae species, optimize extraction and purification protocols by Column chromatography, HPLC. Chemical fingerprinting by ESI-MS and GCMS. In silico analysis of potential of anticancer compounds by molecular phylogeny and various bioinformatics tools. Previously I also worked as a Project JRF at CFTRI, Mysuru in the project entitled “Starter culture technology for processing quality coffee”-SERB for 18 months. It includes lab / Pilot scale cultivation of microbial cultures and fermentation of coffee. Monitoring of Coffee fermentation. Analyzing biochemically by HPLC, UPLC, GC-MS, E-nose E-tongue and coffee sensory. Earlier during my Master\'s Thesis, I worked on ‘‘Isolation of mangostin from Garcinia mangostana L, its structural modification and production through suspension culture’’. Where, the brief work involves compound isolation from pericarp of Mangosteen fruit by column chromatography and TLC. The isolated compounds were structural modified by acetylation and allylation. All the compounds were confirmed by 1H and 13C –NMR & LC-MS. Later, the structurally modified compounds along with the parent compounds were studied for in-vitro anticancer activity against MCF-7 cell lines. Additionally, callus and cell suspension culture of Mangosteen from shoot tissue and identification of mangostin compound in cell suspension culture by LC-MS. Current interests: Bioprospecting of high values metabolites and drug discovery, Chemical ecology and boundary chemistry, Metabolite imaging and deciphering the metabolic pathways in plants, Computational biology for molecular signatures and drug mechanism. The conceptual thinking and working for the growth and wealth of the scientific community are the prime importance. With this regard, I aspire to establish as a consistent and successful professional in plant life science.
