ABOUT VARUN BUDHIRAJA

Varun is a Partner in Deloitte’s Life Sciences M&A Restructuring practice with experience in M&A strategy, diligence, integrations, and divestitures, and restructuring and transformation. He has over 20 years of consulting experience in Corporate Strategy & M&A services and currently leads the US Life Sciences M&A practice. He advises clients that use M&A as a vehicle for growth. He has led multiple case teams on deals for several Fortune 500 companies and spent a majority of his time focused on conducting commercial or operational diligence to help strategic buyers make inorganic growth and restructuring decisions. In addition, his project experiences including portfolio evaluation, restructuring and transformation, commercial model optimization, clean-room analytics, operating model design, corporate development best practices, target evaluation, integration/carve-out strategy and diligence, and sign-to-close integration/divestiture planning and execution. Additionally, he has led case teams through corporate strategy engagements including market entry, portfolio assessments, portfolio optimization, restructuring & margin improvement. His experience primarily spans the life sciences (devices/diagnostics, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals) sector.He is recognized as one of the firm’s leading experts in M&A and pre-deal work and has authored white papers including Transforming Through External Innovation in Life Sciences\",\"Introduction to Divestiture Operating Models:\", “Setting Your Sights on the M&A End Game” and “Creating a Global Powerhouse in Life Science Tools”. He has also created and taught multiple courses on topics related to M&A strategy and diligence. He holds an MS in Electrical Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University, and an MBA in Strategy and Finance from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
