About Varshini Kateelu
I am a Transportation Engineering graduate student at the University of Florida with a strong interest in improving how people move—safely, efficiently, and sustainably. I’m currently interning at WSP as a Traffic Engineering Intern, where I work on traffic impact studies, crash data analysis, signal timing, and traffic calming projects. I use tools like Synchro 12, HCS, ArcGIS Pro, and AutoCAD, and apply FDOT standards in real-world project settings. Previously, I served as a Graduate Research Assistant on FDOT-funded projects focused on pedestrian and bicyclist safety, Safe Routes to School, emergency vehicle visibility, and transportation research implementation. My work involved GIS analysis, field investigations, data interpretation, and drafting technical deliverables. Professionally, I’m passionate about bringing together data, design, and field context to solve transportation problems. I’m excited to grow into a full-time traffic engineering or planning role where I can continue learning and contribute to meaningful projects. Outside of work, I enjoy painting, cooking, playing pickleball, exploring new places, and spending time with friends. I believe that creativity, curiosity, and connection fuel both great design and a great life.
