ABOUT VANESSA V.

I started my Business & Management degree convinced I was going into a career in Human Resources, but a placement role in one of the largest technology firms in the world changed everything. I realised I didn’t understand any of the technology in front of me, so when I finished my placement year and went back to university, I applied for a Year in Computing. I spent a year coding and I loved every minute of it. In fact, I was recognised for achieving the highest score in my cohort, placing among the best of full-time computing students. I used that passion to acquire a place on Rolls-Royce\'s Digital and Technology Solutions graduate scheme. Now I work in the cyber security field, auditing Rolls-Royce\'s IT systems and also turning my hand to implementing our cyber training and awareness strategy. You’ll find I’m excellent at picking things up quickly and that I love to do new and varied things, given my work experiences: I\'ve been an ambassador speaking to students for more than one organisation, I\'ve organised global HR events, conducted user experience testing, done a fair bit of Python coding, led a business unit-wide cyber awareness event, designed a product cyber tabletop exercise, designed and developed cyber training modules, and written business-wide communications. Variety is what gets me up in the morning - and this is reflected in my laundry list of hobbies too! Outside work, you will tend to find me watching Formula 1 or re-runs of American sitcoms. Other than that, I’ll be trying to learn a new piece of music on violin or piano, playing badminton, or reading from my giant stack of books (and e-books). If you’re as excited as I am about learning new things and applying them to work and life, please do connect with me!
