ABOUT VANESA LANG
As a recent M.A. graduate in international development from the University of Denver, I’ve gained a passion for research-based approaches to propel sustainable development in the Global South. My specialization is in humanitarian assistance with a particular emphasis on the importance of localization and cultural understanding in efforts to advance international cooperation and improve global systems. Closely following the rapid changes in our global political system, it is clear that the protection of democratic institutions has never been more urgent. Working on research projects that aim to define the Global South and address its complexities has allowed me to gain invaluable experience on how academic discourse surrounding complex issues is formed. My time interning at the International Rescue Committee has also taught me that academic discourse without the application of personal interactions based on empathy and curiosity cannot produce the desired outcomes for a more equitable society. All efforts to propel international development through community, inclusion, and access are worthy ones!
