WORK HISTORY
Director of Property Development @One City Peterborough
Peterborough, ON, CA
I house people that are hard to house. This includes men and women coming out of homelessness, and men coming out of the prison system. I am inspired to provide good homes, to share kindness, and to give dignity through safe housing. I also provide direction around the development of other properties that One City Peterborough is responsible for. This includes a shelter space and a community drop-in space in the renovated Trinity Centre, various properties owned by private landlords, and properties that are being managed by other non-profit organizations.

ABOUT MICHAEL VANDERHERBERG
I help people connect to other people. That is one thing that I love to do and it has shaped where I work. As the Housing Director with One City Peterborough, I work with great community partnerships to see people housed who are hard to house. As the Refugee Resettlement Coordinator at the New Canadians Centre, I worked with and managed a team of staff and volunteers who welcomed, resettled and integrated newly arrived refugee families. As the Director of Laridae Systems with Laridae Communications, I connected with Executive Directors of local non-profits to assess gaps in their organizations, and then I connected them with highly qualified professionals that could fill those gaps. As the Employment Services Coordinator at the New Canadians Centre, I helped newcomers connect to employers in the Peterborough area to get good jobs. As the co-owner at the Silver Bean Café, I really enjoyed meeting someone and drawing others into the conversation (over coffee of course) that would mutually benefit from meeting one another. I think what you do should be a reflection of who you are and the things you enjoy doing. This is a luxury that we have in Canada. I do not feel entitled to it, but rather, see it as an opportunity to serve and love other people while truly enjoying myself and those around me. Specialties: Making people laugh. Housing. Refugee sponsorship. Starting a campfire. Networking. Making espresso drinks. Accreditation and licensing procedures. Faith, hope and love. Geographic Information Systems. Riding my bicycle. Strategic board games. Loving life and having good times with friends. I am curious, confident, sociable, and energetic. And I want to make you laugh.
