About Van C. Lansingh
Prof. Lansingh has worked in Latin America, North America, South East Asia, and the Pacific. He obtained his MD in 1987 from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico City, Mexico, with residency and postgraduate work in Mexico City (APEC/UNAM) and the Nielsen Center for Eye Surgery/University of South Florida. In 2005 he was awarded a PhD from the University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia in health sciences after field work with Aboriginal communities in Central Australia in which he studied the effects of the SAFE strategy for trachoma. After several posts in Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Australia, and Latin America (a former Academic and Research Advisor of Fundacion Vision, Paraguay 20••••07), as well as the IAPB’s VISION 2020 regional coordinator in Latin America from 2004 until January 2015. In 2012 he was named Voluntary Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami and one year later the Director of Outreach Activities of the Department of Ophthalmology of the University of Tennessee. More recently he joined Help Me See as the chief medical officer for LA and with time seconded as Residency Training Director of the Mexican Institute of Ophthalmology (IMO) in Queretaro, Mexico
