About Valeri Jean-Pierre
I am currently a graduate student at Michigan State University studying Applied Mathematics. I earned my Bachelor\'s Degree in Mathematics at CUNY Medgar Evers College in the spring of 2018. I completed the post-baccalaureate program at Smith College in the spring of 2020. I value the importance of research and have a critical eye to detail. I am extremely adaptable and a very fast learner. Along with my desires are my transferable skills that I bring along with any job or internship I may acquire. I have an exceptional understanding of mathematical concepts, and I have tutored students in many mathematical applications such as Calculus, Discrete Mathematics, Differential Geometry, Pre-Algebra, College Algebra, Trigonometry, and Computer Science(C++). My work experience shows that my skill set is not only vested in great mathematical comprehension. I have worked in non-profit to state government where my analytic skills and initiative have aided me greatly. All my math courses in combination with my exceptional people skills can provide as a great asset to any company.

Mentor
Mar 2021 — Present
I work as a mentor, where I guide and help students who are applying for their PhD in mathematics. Project Short is absolutely free and we guide students through the entire application process including personal statement feedback as well as mock interviews. The goal is to increase diversity and accessibility to all when going through this process. Project Short also provides services to other STEM and Humanities fields.
