I’m currently working as Principal Architect and Principal Designer (CDM 2015) on the Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power) project, now in its EPC phase. This is a first-of-its-kind, fully integrated gas-fired power and carbon capture initiative, aimed at making Teesside the UK’s first decarbonized industrial cluster.NZT Power, a joint venture between bp and Equinor, is designed to generate up to 742 megawatts of flexible, dispatchable low-carbon electricity—enough to meet the average annual needs of over 1 million UK homes. The plant will capture up to 2 million tonnes of CO₂ per year, which will be transported and securely stored by the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) in subsea storage sites beneath the North Sea.NZT Power could create and support more than construction jobs and then require around jobs annually during operations until 2050.Start-up is expected in 2028, supporting the UK Government’s Clean Power 2030 ambition.
