ABOUT VALERIE MARCEL
I am co-founder and executive director of the New Producers for Sustainable Energy initiative (known for its first 10 years as the New Producers Group). It is a South-South peer-to-peer network of 22 new and emerging oil and gas producer countries. The Group\'s vision is for these countries to achieve sustainable and equitable development by designing their sectors ‘right’, with minimal growth in GHG and methane emissions, while developing pathways that increase prosperity and build resilience in the transition I am an expert on national oil companies, governance, and the energy transition. In 2006, I published \'Oil Titans: National Oil Companies in the Middle East\" in 2006 - The first book on NOCs, it was based on 120 in-depth interviews within these companies. Recent publications include \"Left Behind, Emerging OIl Producers in a Warming World\". I also advise governments in sub-Saharan Africa, the Eastern Mediterranean, South America and the Caribbean on navigating the energy transition and governance. I sit on the Advisory Boards of the the Natural Resource Governance Institute and Payne Institute. I participate in expert steering groups at the OECD, Columbia University, and Audencia Business School\'s Energy Transition & Sustainability Center. I was Acting Chair and Vice Chair of the Governing Board of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnerships Previously, I led energy research at Chatham House and taught international relations at the Institut d’études politiques (Sciences Po), Paris and Cairo University.
