ABOUT VALERIA FERRANDO

My educational background is in Physics and Material Science but, after a period spent as researcher at University in the field of superconductivity, I decided to move to industry. I then joined D\'Appolonia, a private engineering consultancy company where I worked as a Project Manager of national and EU funded research and innovation projects on nanotechnology applied to energy efficiency, medical devices and security. In D\'Appolonia, I have gathered multidisciplinary expertise and skills related to project management, business modeling and market analysis, IPR management. Furthermore, I have acquired a strong capability to effectively take decisions and to interact with different partner profiles, including small entreprises, large industrial players, academic institutions and public bodies. After almost 7 years in D\'Appolonia, I joined the R&D division of IES Ltd, an innovative company at the forefront of the development and application of software simulation tools and consulting services for architects and engineers involved in the design, development and management of sustainable buildings. My role in IES mainly consists in managing EU funded research projects dealing with energy efficient and sustainable buildings and districts, ensuring that they lead to marketable products for the company. Furthermore, I take care of finding new funding opportunities and research grants at European level to support IES R&D, setting up partnerships and writing proposals.
