As a business owner, advisor, and associate professor adept in identifying and assessing niche business opportunities and mitigating short- and long-term financial risks, Brooks expertly understands the intricacies and nuances of individual, estate, and company accounting structures and planning. Deeply skilled in client-based retail and real estate transactions with acute awareness of strategic goals and aspirations, he is known for developing creative, practical business solutions and comprehensive operational planning that maximize benefits while complying with evolving regulations. Brooks is an established entrepreneur and founder of a luxury retail boutique, collaborating with manufacturers, designers, and procurement professionals across the globe to produce unique, customer-centric products and experiences. As an educator, Brooks is a fervent believer in equitable learning environments and professional development and has served as a change agent for marginalized groups both in and outside the classroom with several publications and research concerning DEIA, Americans with Disabilities and equitable tax code, accounting methods and principles, and social entrepreneurship. He has a keen ability to advise start-ups and mature businesses in the development of financially sound and agile structures that adhere to regulatory and governing bodies.Motivated by his sense of service, he is also founder and committee member of the DEI Task Force and member of the Awards, Education, and Scholarship Committee for the Mississippi Society of CPAs; and, founding member and advisor to the Southern Business Institute, a collaborative platform created by small business owners to share resources, ideate, and empower each other. Brooks is a strong vocal advocate for the dual ability of business to not only generate profit but also to benefit others, specifically diverse and underserved groups. He has published numerous journal articles and presentations throughout his career with a focus on the effects, risks, and opportunities of regulation, public policy, and social responsibility and is a believer in the power of business, community, and individual networks working together to influence change for the greater good.
