ABOUT UTTAM PURI GOSWAMI
Uttam is a hydrologist and climate change professional; holds a Ph.D. in Water Resources Engineering from IIT Guwahati, focused on climate extremes and glacial lake outburst floods over the Himalayas, which includes climate change analysis, the joint response of climate extremes, hydrological modeling, statistical methods, and glacier hazards. Uttam has experience working as a researcher and academician. His expertise involves an understanding of hydro-climatological processes and their connections to the natural-human world through interdisciplinary research. Currently, he is working on the evaluation of high-resolution reanalysis datasets, on extreme runoff impacts of Atmospheric Rivers (ARs) over British Columbia, Canada. He also got exposure to lead a research project on updating Intensity-Duration-Frequency (IDF) curves for the city of Saskatoon, Canada considering climate change; generation of risk profile using 21 CMIP5 climate models, and two quantile-based downscaling techniques. He was also involved in several consultancy projects such as Jal Jeevan Mission (preparation of DPR – design, estimate, and drawing), design and network planning of the underground pipeline irrigation system including aerial mapping, and flood studies.
