ABOUT UTSAV THAKUR
In high school, I first experienced the thrill of applying mathematics to financial markets, trying my hand at modeling stock prices using Excel and Geometric Brownian Motion. Those early experiments sparked a lasting curiosity; the idea that mathematical logic could help decode the unpredictable nature of markets, bridging the gap between the uncertainty of finance and the deterministic foundation of computer science and mathematics.Currently, I’m a Maroon Scholar at the University of Chicago pursuing my Master\'s in Financial Mathematics. Prior to UChicago, I earned my Bachelor\'s in Computer Science at Purdue University, with additional coursework in Data Science and Economics. Through internships at Aerovy, EPI-USE, and Logixal, I’ve learned how impactful it can be to blend software engineering with thoughtful data analytics. At Aerovy, I developed an AI-powered diagnostic tool that reduced equipment troubleshooting time by 90 percent, streamlining product development and engineering workflows.I’m passionate about applying my skills in Python, C++, R, SQL, QuantLib, AWS, and financial modeling techniques to solve complex technical problems in finance. I’m especially drawn to roles that sit at the intersection of modeling, data, and decision-making, whether in quantitative strategy, financial engineering, or innovative fintech applications.Outside of work, I’m a lifelong Juventus fan. It started when I was a kid watching Buffon pull off impossible saves and Pirlo controlling the game like it was second nature. Even now, no matter how the team is doing, I never miss a match. There’s something about the grit, the history, and the sheer drama of Italian football that’s stuck with me over the years.I also enjoy kayaking, exploring new video games, and following the NBA - activities that help me reset and stay curious beyond the numbers (yet somehow I find myself crunching numbers in these activities).I’m always open to connecting with others in the quant finance space, UChicago peers, or anyone working at the intersection of finance, math, and technology. Let’s connect.
