ABOUT JEREMIAH J. COTTLE
I lead Strategic Futures at the U.S. Secret Service, Office of Strategy, Planning, and Innovation - Enterprise Strategy Division. Foresight asks, “what could the future look like?” My work informs leadership by framing the future threat environment. What possible scenarios could we face and how can we be resilient? From kinetic attacks on principals to cyber-enabled financial crime, the future is already here. In this role I oversee the agency’s foresight activities that inform our strategic plan to ensure that we engage in long-term planning, set clear objectives, and maintain accountability in our operations and use of resources. I also support our law enforcement dual mission under 18 U.S.C. § 3056 to protect the President of the United States, other national leaders, and secure the United States’ financial payments systems.I leverage my training from the U.S. Department of War to identify connections between the Secret Service mission and irregular warfare, analyze strategic implications, explore alternative futures, and provide informed advice to agency decision-makers. I am a certified foresight, strategic planning, and risk management professional. I am an attorney and admitted to practice law in the State of Maine, the State of Connecticut, the District of Columbia, several U.S. District Courts, U.S. Courts of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
