About Michael J. Farias

I am a fourth-year medical student at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. During the 2024–2025 academic year, I served as a Research Fellow at University Orthopedics through the Academic Scholars Program, and I continue to actively collaborate with the lab. My research primarily focuses on spinal pathologies, surgical innovations, and patient-reported outcomes in orthopedic surgery. Passionate about mentorship, I actively support medical and undergraduate students in developing their research skills and fostering an interest in clinical investigation. As I advance toward orthopedic residency, I am committed to combining clinical excellence, research innovation, and dedicated mentorship.

   Conducting innovative clinical research on spine pathologies and surgical procedures under the guidance of Dr. Alan H. Daniels and Dr. Bassel Diebo. Spearheaded a comprehensive database revamp, significantly enhancing data quality and research outcomes. Improved the Surgimap Radiographic component, expanding radiographic parameter capabilities and overall lab functionality.Developed educational resources to facilitate student learning in clinical research methodologies. Currently coordinating with the International Spine Study Group and managing collaborations with over 40 student members to promote research access and participation.Key achievements:• Led database overhaul, improving efficiency and accuracy• Enhanced Surgimap Radiographic capabilities• Created tutorials for clinical research methodologies
