About Urja Sadiwala

Availability and utilization of financing at an individual and institutional level is the starting point for economic growth. My academic and professional journeys have enabled me to develop a foundation in the basic tenets of finance and have convinced me that a Master’s in Finance is the best way to kick off the next stage of my professional journey. I have acquired a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce and completed two years of study for the Indian Chartered Accountancy (CA) qualification. My preparation for the CA course sparked an interest for Financial Management and Economics for Finance. My internship at V Singhi and Associates helped me learn about the principles of optimal financial planning keeping in mind client risk appetite, capital requirements and tax regulations also gain insights into Indian taxation and audit regulations.I also worked as a Finance Analyst intern at Tushar Joshi, a financial services firm that exposed me to the use of finance for meeting lifestyle goals of clients. My responsibilities were understanding investment capability and risk aptitude of clients and help them select the right financial products to invest in. I researched about the new products introduced in the market and prepare client communication reports about the performance of various products. Working here helped me work on overall portfolio analysis. Before this, I was working with Inde Global Consulting LLP as a valuations intern. I first worked on relatively basic models involving trend analysis, common size analysis and preparation of projected financials basis historical data. Later my role included company valuations (debt and equity), goodwill impairment, IPO process and I also applied various techniques-Discounted Cash Flows, Guideline Public Company Method and the Guideline Transaction Method. I am also familiar with WACC, multiple analysis and selection, normalization adjustments and tools such as Capital IQ, Thomas Reuters Eikon, Refinitiv and the Duff and Phelps module.My goal is to work as an associate with global investment banks. Through such a role, I aspire to develop expertise in valuation of debt and equity and also in the other aspects such as underwriting, deal negotiation, company valuation and strategy formation. I would like to work on a variety of transactions - fund raising, IPOs, M&A, etc with companies across a variety of sectors so as to build a sector agnostic skill set and experience. I hope to have acquired the necessary skill set, exposure and deal experience by then to successfully create value in such a role.
